However, the contract manufacturers would try to improve their relationship with the buyers as to not only rendering the buyers to share information, but also to create a healthy long-term relationship. The author identifies the issue and value in the contract manufacturer’s relationship with its buyer and the strategy behind it. Design/methodology/approach – The author reviews literature on sports apparel, its OEM business model, and the brief information of international athletic brands who dominate the current industry. The author designs an interview method, as it his primary data, with respondents who are relevant to manufacturing activities. Findings – This research identifies the relationship of the contract manufacturers with its buyers, and explores the contract manufacturers’ operations and completions of their productions according to the buyers’ given guidelines. This research explores the contract manufacturers’ strategy from improving themselves through information sharing, for instance the technique of assimilating buyers’ knowledge and technique into their own capability and competency, to building a close relationship with the buyers. There are also collaborative projects between the contract manufacturers with the buyers, and another collaborative project between a contract manufacturer and its associate service provider. Research Limitations – This research does not include the complete detail of contract manufacturers’ collaborative projects due to its sensitivity, and it is also currently underway without producing any result.
