When people go shopping, they would first find the store by looking at store signboards on the street. So very eye-catching and highly attractive store signboards can significantly influence store choices. Therefore, visual design of store signboards is an important aspect of advertisement nowadays. In this context, the study explores the effects of different fonts, colors and graphic styles on the degree of attractiveness and visibility of store signboards with virtual reality technology. Each of these the factors (font, color and graphic style) has multiple levels in this study. It would be a time-consuming and expensive effort to develop all models with different combinations of fonts, colors and graphic styles and perform experiment accordingly. Taguchi methods are a technique developed by Dr. Taguchi for experiment design. Such methods are designed to perform experiments for quality optimization with fewer experiments and less cost and time. In this study, Taguchi methods were used to measure the effects of the three factors (font, color and graphic style) onvisibility of store signboards. Questionnaires were distributed to experiment participants and the results were analyzed in order to put forward a design solution for consumers’ information and store signboard designers’reference in regard to visual design. The study aimed to 1)compare experiment results of the settings of TV-watching and virtual reality, which indicate that virtual reality setting gave experiment participants more genuine feeling of the real world and helped them better get informed, 2)assess the effects of font, color and graphic style on viewer’s satisfaction of the design of store signboards anduseTaguchi methods to present findings, 3) conduct quantitative analysison experiment results, come to a conclusion based on findings of the study and provide suggestions for future studies.
