In this study, we estimated the effect of garlic extracts on Dermatophoides pteronyssinus (Der p) -induced allergic airway inflammation. BALB/c mice were treated with different doses of garlic extracts and S-Allyl-L-cysteine (SAC) 80 mg/kg orally for two weeks before Der p allergen sensitization and for another two weeks during sensitization and allergen challenge. As the results of this study, we found that the doses of garlic extract 200 mg/kg and SAC 80 mg/kg significantly raise the content of serum IgE and IgG1, IgG2a, increase IFN-γ content and promote the balance of autoimmune TH1/TH2. The concentrations of IL-4, IL-10 and IL-12 were significantly decreased in the doses of garlic extract 200 mg/kg and SAC 80 mg/kg. Histological analyses of the lung, bronchus and thymus were observed that garlic extract and SAC significantly improve inflammatory cell infiltration.
