Summary:碩士 === 大葉大學 === 建築研究所 === 105 === Light Facility, is a container of architecture in which is able to catch direct lighting and reflected lighting as an unity then transforms its accent into space. The composition and construction of light facilities consist of materials into their locus and logic through design strategy. Designers attempt to realize space and form through logic, concept and aesthetics of light. The Construction of Light Facility certainly influences the way of how the light comes in, how it whispers a story, and in peculiar of how it guides to human behavior and the atmosphere within the space. This thesis intends to introduce Louis Kahn’s idea of light as architectural paradigm. From Kahn’s unique approach in light and space, this research is based on know his approach in symmetrical layout and use of the raw concrete and brick as the essence of construction. Architecture of Kahn reveals the mature quality in light expression.Louis Kahn skillfully manipulates light in order to let people unconsciously experience a sense of tranquility when people enter inside of building. The quality of monumentality and eternality by Kahn is crucial to essential to light facility. Kahn has influenced many architects in our generation, like Mario Botta and Peter Zumthor’s works. Many of their works have indicated Kahn’s traces. This thesis also applies several works by Botta and Zumthor to reveal their concerns which relate to light facility. How they respond and transcend from Kahn’s notion of light into their own design and architecture.
