The leadership style and the behavior of a leader are important since it plays a crucial role in the success of an organization. It is for this reason that much research has been done on the aspect of leadership and how it can be used to improve the performance of an organization in different sectors. This research aimed at the effect of paternalistic leadership on the employee engagement and how it influences the performance of employees in Taiwan. The study employed questionnaires which were administered to various respondents. The major issues were the task and contextual performance about the paternalistic leadership. Questionnaires were preferred in the study due to the high ability of bias reduction and enhancing the collection of data which is authentic for analysis. The data collected was analyzed using SPSS and the results expressed in tables. The results showed that the relation between paternalistic leadership and employee performance is positive. The relation between paternalistic leadership and employee engagement is positive. The relation between employee performance and employee engagement is positive. Employee engagement also mediates the relation between paternalistic leadership and employee performance.
