To date, depression has been diagnosed in more than one million patients in Taiwan. Depression is more common in women than men, and most women have been estimated to experience postpartum depression. This study proposed that practicing yoga can soothe the sympathetic nervous system-hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal gland axis, thereby reducing depression and anxiety. Parent–child yoga can significantly and positively improve emotional depression. This study investigated the effects of parent-child yoga on depression and stress. Methods: A total of 20 participants were enrolled, consisting of 10 mothers, each of whom had a 3-20-month-old child. The experiment group participants attended parent-child yoga classes for 60 minutes once a week for 5 weeks. The control group consisted of 10 mothers who did not attend these classes. We used the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI)-II and Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) to analyze the effects of yoga on depression and stress by comparing the mothers in the two groups. Results: The women who participated in the yoga classes exhibited significant reductions based on the BDI-II and PSS results, whereas no significant differences were observed in the control group. Conclusions: Parent-child yoga has significant and positive effects on depression and stress in mothers. YEN, CHIN-EN 嚴金恩 2017 學位論文 ; thesis 114 zh-TW
