Description
Summary:碩士 === 中華大學 === 資訊工程學系 === 106 === Institutional research refers to the results of search, analysis, and data mining of school-related materials, enabling managers to quickly understand the direction of decision-making related to school affairs. There are many important issues in school management that need to be guided by institutional research, such as key courses that affect student retention, differences between disadvantaged and ordinary students, and the differences in learning performance of students who enter through different channels....etc. To analyze these important issues, it is necessary to properly preprocess the collected data according to the needs of different topics to facilitate data analysis and data mining. However, data preprocessing consumes a lot of manpower and time, often resulting in loss of timeliness when obtaining analytical results. Moreover, the same steps must repeat again when the data or the requirement changed. It brings a considerable workload to institutional researchers. To ease the data preprocessing tasks and make it more convenient and faster to improve the efficiency of institutional research, a data preprocessing system is developed for institutional research in this thesis. A set of intermediate data formats suitable for institutional research is designed, and three important issues in institutional research are addressed: (1) key courses that affect student retention, (2) differences between disadvantaged and ordinary students, and (3) differences among students who enter through different channels. The institutional researchers collect information related to the school, including the student's basic information, admission data, learning performance data, etc., and import them into the data preprocessing system using the designate intermediate data format, then select the topic to be analyzed, and the system will perform all the data preprocessing tasks needed. The preprocessed data can be easily exported to the tools of data analysis and data mining as needed. The institutional research data preprocessing system integrates data from different sources through standardized intermediate data formats and preprocessing data according to major institutional research topics. The system greatly simplifies the complexity of data preprocessing to accommodate future data changes. Furthermore, it reduces a series of tedious data preprocessing tasks, which can speed up data preprocessing and improve the efficiency of institutional research.
