A narrative inquiry approach was used to explore three married female elementary teachers’ participation in continuing higher education programs. Qualitative data were collected from semi-structured interviews and observations over a two-year period. The findings of this study suggest that the teachers’ motivations included financial considerations, changes in the educational environment, peer pressure and family expectations. The factors that influenced their participation decisions include school/major choices, transportation, and family considerations. The narrative nalysis of this study reveals various role conflicts. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.
