Description
Summary:碩士 === 中華科技大學 === 健康科技研究所在職專班 === 105 === Abstract Some industries in Taiwan often discharge toxic gases during the production or operation processes. Partial toxic gases are odorant. If these fugitive substances are not properly handled, they would have potential for negative effects on the environment and human health. The methods for the gases removal include physical adsorption, chemical absorption, gas oxidation, electrode oxidation, incineration and biotreatment. Among these methods, physical and chemical methods are not sucessfully applied to the field, because of the low level of technology and high cost. In contrast, the biotreatment belongs to the environment-friendly and low-cost method. Hence, this study intends to remove the gases or smells by improving the activity of biological agents, applying catalytic ores and modifying the configuration of bioreactor. The results showed that 95.6% removal was achieved at 200 ppm NH3 when the system operated for 6 h at 20 s gas residence time (GRT). The system achieved 97.5% H2S removal by the immobilization of biological agents, the addition of catalytic ores and the use of fresh biological agents. The cell number was between 8.5×106-3.5×107 CFU/mL and the pH of the system was between 6.3-7.2 during the operation, which indicated that the system was stable. The effect factors on system’s performance included the activity and composition of biological agents, GRT and the pore size of inlet air bubbles. Two deodorizing strains in the system were identified as Paludibaculum fermentans and Ectothiorhodosinus mongolicum. This modified biosystem has a potential to be applied in the field in removing toxic substances. Keywords: biodegradation; bioreactor; detoxification; catalytic ores
