Summary: | 碩士 === 長庚大學 === 護理學系 === 105 === As the era of population aging is coming, hip fracture in older people has become one of the most important health issues in Taiwan. Specifically, cardiovascular diseases including hypertension, heart diseases and stroke have been found to be severe co-morbidities following hip fracture and predicted poor outcome following hip fracture. However, the influences of number of cardiovascular diseases on the recovery after the surgery for a hip fracture have not been explored. Therefore, the purpose of the study was to explore the relationship between number of cardiovascular diseases and post-operative recovery for hip fractures in older people. A secondary data analysis was conducted on a clinical trial examining effects of three different care models including a comprehensive care, a subacute interdisciplinary care, and routine care for hip fractured older persons. Chi-square tests were used to analyze the relationships between the number of cardiovascular diseases (1, 2, or 3) and the post-operative recovery outcomes including changes in activities of daily living(ADLs) at 12 months, mortality, hospital re-admission and emergency room visit within 12th months following the surgery for a hip fracture. The results showed that there were no significant relationships between the number of cardiovascular diseases and outcomes including changes in ADL at 12 months, mortality, hospital readmission and emergency room visits within 1 2 months following the surgery for a hip fracture. Due to the severity of the cardiovascular diseases were not assessed in the original study, and the use of a convenient and small sample, the results will need to be further validated in future studies.
