However, there is lacking of the study on trend and related factors of ACP among nurses who are taking of patients with chronic illness. The results from this study aims to enhance the quality of care for patients with end-of-life stage. Purpose: The purposes of this study were to explore the knowledge, attitude and practice behavior of nurses regarding ACP. The specific aims included the status of knowledge, attitude and practice behavior of nurses regarding ACP, the relationships between nurses demographic characteristics and the knowledge, attitude and practice behavior of advanced care planning, the relationships between knowledge, attitude and practice behavior , the predictors of knowledge, attitude and practice behavior affecting ACP. Design: This study with a crossing-sectional design was conducted with a purposive sample of 218 nurses at a teaching hospital in southern Taiwan. A structured questionnaires with 71 items and six dimensions were employed in this study and data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson’s correlation and multiple regressions. Results: The results were as follows: The knowledge of palliative care among nurses was fair, but the knowledge of ACP was insufficient. The attitude of ACP was positive, but the behavior of ACP was not positively executed. The important predictor included perceived control in advanced care planning discussion, Subjective Norms about Advance Care Planning, beliefs about advanced care planning, ethnicities, and uncertain physician idea that accounting for 37.9% of the total variance for practice behaviors of ACP. Conclusion: Continuous education and training for nurses regarding ACP needs to be improved, and more studies on the nurse's role in ACP also should be further examined.
