This dissertation mainly focuses on the issue of Taiwanese local culture and native languages, by investigating the content of textbook and its educational practice. It also indicates that native language course design develops with the cultural industries in Chiayi, encouraging students to understand an area’s local and public history. On course participant section, particularly, leads student to experience traditional culture as well. Learning through participating folk song or handmade lessons, it sticks to students’ original cultural identity or to rebuild the new cultural identity. In addition to the pedagogy, the outdoor learning program emphasizes a student-centered, experiential, place-based approach to integrating the outdoors into the cultural experience of all students.
According to multiple approaches in native language course design, this dissertation rethinks the action research on implication of teaching materials and tutorial participation. Integrating between local culture and native languages thus can be regarded as a significant step in order to develop a localized curriculum in Taiwan. The case study concludes that integrated instruction is able to create an effective interaction between students and teachers, to improve teaching materials and to promote local Taiwanese culture.
