Summary: | 碩士 === 國立中正大學 === 教育領導與管理發展國際碩士學位學程 === 105 === The rising number of females participating in the paid workforce has been one of the leading social trends over the last half century. While females have made great progress in labour participation, the ratio of females in highest educational leadership positions remains a concern. The purpose of this qualitative research study is to explore the experiences of current female educational leaders with a feminist theoretical perspective. This study explores the experiences of three female principals from the secondary schools in the Solomon Islands; from the national level, community level and provincial level. Respectively the results of the semi-structured interviews and supplemental indicate three key themes influenced by gender relations, in the participants’ experiences: (1) Intersection of Work and Family showing the experiences in relation to priority between work and family; responsibility between work and family; family support, and gender role conflicts between being a wife, mother and principal (2) Interaction at Work place reveals relationship with colleagues; female and male attitudes or mentality towards the participants, and the issue of trust, respect and decision making and (3) Female leadership, participants experience in relation to gender attributes; access to resources; leading skills and leadership style. By drawing attention to the experiences the women encounter while in their leadership positions, this study helps add on to the literature of study in the Melanesian society, especially in the Solomon Islands, and pave the way forward for teachers, administrators, policy makers and others interested in bringing about the aims of gender justice and understanding some of the experience that principal in the country face.
