process of the vocational trainings held by Chia-yi City (County) Government. The main purposes of the research are as follows:
1. To understand the current circumstances of hotel attendants’ participating in the vocational trainings held by Chia-yi City (County) Government.
2. To understand hotel attendants’ learning process of the vocational trainings.
3. To explore the effectiveness of hotel attendants’ learning process of the
vocational trainings.
4. According to the results of this research, researcher presents some suggestions on the future relevant vocational trainings to the government.
This research has conducted semi-structured interviews to interview ten trainees, and made the results through qualitative analysis as the following:
1. The overall service vision of hotel industry affects the personnel trainings of hotel attendants. Therefore, the governments’ assistance in integrating and developing tourism resources would promot local tourism industry actively so that the consistency management of hotel industry will make the vocational
trainings held by the governments highly effective.
2. The government’s policy on reduction in the tourists from mainland China impacts the employment opportunities for the trainees. Therefore, Chiayi city (county) government should guide the towns and townships to promote their tourism features of various resources, and develop the surrounding sub-core attractions so as to enhance local humanities and hospitality
services. As the tourism value of every towns and townships will then
increase the employment opportunities.
3. Hotel attendants’ learning process of vocational trainings: (1) Learning motivation: The diverse contents of vocational training courses attract the participants, and induce their motivation of learning. (2) The prosperous expectation of tourism industry in recent years encourages the participants’ interest in the field, and induce their motivation of learning. (3) The learners with limited academic qualifications are motivated to learn the labor work of the housing as a way of employment. (4) The achievement of their learning: The most beneficial courses include "Housekeeping, Cleansing Skills, and Catering Skills for Chinese and Western hospitality." The practical service skills in hospitality and hotel can be actually applied in their current work. After the vocational training courses, the participants have improved in their
professional skills, knowledge and working efficiency.
4. The effectiveness of hotel attendants’ learning process of the vocational trainings: (1) The benefits in their employment: the participants gain better opportunities of employment and higher payments for the result of the advantages of the vocational training. (2) The difficulties of their employment: the interviewees willing to work in hotels would still be limited by the factors of physical pain, physical vigor, or ages; besides, the businesses’ requirements
of the job may also affect job seekers’ willingness of employment.
Based on the above findings, researcher proposes the following
recommendations:
1. To the government: (1) The prosperity and development of hotel industry
depend on government’s schemes and policies of promotion. (2) Assisting
local governments to improve tourism industry and to facilitate the loop of
traffic construction may relatively promote the employment opportunities and
effectiveness in hotel industry.
2. To the vocational training institutions: (1) vocational training plannings should not only correspond to the training programs of the practical requirements, but also be graded on account of the trainees’ ages and abilities so as to offer more suitable courses for the trainees to devote themselves to their work after trainings. (2) offer vocational trainings for the elderly and expand cooperation training programs with enterprises. (3) establishing consultation department of vocational trainings for the elderly may bridge the gap between vocational trainings and employment needs.
3. To the trainees: vocational trainings are positive benefits to the learners, which can lay the foundation of personal work skills and improve employability. Learning process should be lifelong continuance so that insistence learning may benefit you developing your potential and creating
personal competition both in inside and outside individual values.
4. Recommendation for the future research: based on the object constraints, this study provides the following recommendations as reference: (1) the exploration of the institutiions’ attitudes toward the vocational trainings for the young elders. (2) to explore, from the perspective of the employers, the performance and the inadequacies in the satisfaction of the trainees who have finished vocational trainings so as to provide the references for the institutions
to develop and improve the training programs for the unemployed.
