However, the industry faces intense competition from other textile suppliers worldwide since brand clients are considerably cautious when it comes to the selection of suppliers. This is why Taiwanese fabric suppliers, in order to secure a partnership with these brand clients, are willing to customize their products and deploy resources in the development of new fabric. Some fabric suppliers even invest in specific assets just to increase customer dependence upon their products. In the past, the focus of most related studies centered on the industry of electronics and manufacture in Taiwan to discuss the correlation of asset specificity and customer relations. Nevertheless, it is also worth to note that Taiwanese textile industry, as another main source of foreign income within the country, possesses a complete network of up-to-down supply chain, let alone their technique of developing new fabric which is currently unparalleled by any other international counterparts. The organization of textile suppliers in Taiwan consists not only of large-scale textile factories, but also down to smaller-scale fabric converters. The investment strategy on specific assets deployed by Taiwanese suppliers varies depending on their resources and abilities. Through a thorough literature review and conducting individual interviews on Taiwanese textile industry, this study shows how the different attributes of specific assets will relatively determine the government relation between suppliers and customers. In all, the study aims to provide beneficial insights for fabric suppliers on the use of asset specificity on the management and maintenance of customer relations.
