An average of three U.S. jobs is proffered by seven international students. However, uncertain relationships between American economy and international education have not been solved in recent studies on time series. This thesis will be provided to fill the gap between economic growth and international education. The objective of this thesis is to examine the economic impact on international education in the United States during the period from 1980 to 2015. The objective of this thesis is to examine the economic impact on international education in the United States (NAFSA, 2015). We employ the long run relationship between the U. S. international student enrollment in four academic levels such as undergraduate, graduate, non-degree and optional practical training (OPT) and Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the period 1980-2015. In the empirical analyses, utilizing unite root tests, Johansen Cointegration test and Vector Error Correction Models (VECM); The empirical results reveal there is a short-run unidirectional causality from the change of non-degree enrollment to the change of economic growth with the 5% significance level. There is a short-run unidirectional causality from the change of graduate school enrollment to the change of economic growth at the 10% significance level. Discussion on the results in terms of short-run casualty is the relationships between economic growth and international education. LAI, YAO-TSUNG 賴耀宗 2016 學位論文 ; thesis 34 en_US |
