It is fulfilled by stamping a visible logo and/or a segment of text on an image to declare the ownership of the image and to deter unauthorized usage to the image. Most visible watermarking techniques reported in the literature are based on characteristics of Human Visual System (HVS). These methods emphasis on displaying the watermark in uniform perceptual contrast to viewers; however, the clarity to the content underneath the watermark is not well maintained. This thesis presents a visible watermarking technique which makes a compromise between exhibiting the watermark in uniform contrast and maintaining the fidelity to the original image. The proposed method combines the HVS characteristics, a saliency map and a distance transform function, to evaluate the stamping strength watermark pixels. Experimental results show the proposed method achieves a good balance to the visual quality between the watermark pattern and the image content beneath it.
