As a result, universities are no longer merely places where the young can learn, but have become organizations which provide the elderly with knowledge, skills, and concepts related to health in order to affirm their life experiences and personal value. In addition, the elderly education provided by the university system, and research on seniors, have transformed young people’s negative images of the elderly. They are learning how to get along with the older generation. This study provides a case study of the Yuan Ze University and Kainan University schools of lifelong education in Taoyuan City. It explores which courses seniors who participate find most interesting, and how they can age successfully through learning. In addition, it examines how education can improve the quality of life for the elderly in order to lower costs to society. This study’s findings are as follows: learning participation assists the elderly in aging successfully and slows the aging process; and participation in learning activities also facilitates social interaction, which improves quality of life. It is recommended that education organizations which establish schools of lifelong education provide professional and accurate information for seniors and facilitate a more positive attitude toward old age through a variety of courses which explore life’s meaning. In addition, the elderly will gradually improve their quality of life through participation in these courses and develop beneficial patterns of interaction with trainees participating in courses with them.
