Although the narrative buildings of narrative design appeared only after the development of post-modernism architecture, in fact there had been “narrative” buildings in postwar Taiwan. Looking at what had affected designer’s background and ideology thus led to the “story tendency” of the narrative buildings. Buildings constructed in early postwar period told nothing more than the background in that era, therefore most were telling stories of “the U.S. Aid” and “pseudo-classical Chinese Architectures”. While the introduction of modernization and modernism brought “modern spirit story” in narrative technique of designers. However, the postmodernism brought in at the time of 1980 brought narrative “story told by postmodernism architecture” in architecture thus and analysis of the designers’ architectural works is seen as the integrated link of the architectural narratives. The research tries to annotate and elaborate the rising of narrative design of Taiwan architecture through combination of narrative design theory and architectural context. Through the development of Taiwan architecture, illustrate the rise of Taiwan narrative architectural design. Starting from the modern architecture stories developed since postwar, the story of palatial architecture and postmodern architecture will be represented in the middle, and finally the rising of real narrative design is elaborated. In the end, to coordinate and conclude the narrative expression of Taiwan architecture with representative modern cases as well as to stress the appearance of regional features of Taiwan architecture and lingering charm of classic Chinese architecture, the research will reflect and introspection with the integration of diversified narrative.
