Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立雲林科技大學 === 視覺傳達設計系 === 104 === This study explored the cognition and sensory evaluation of operation interface icons of smartphone users so as to learn about the correlation between visual communication and rational cognition of operation interface icons. This study centered on five best-selling brands of smartphones, including Asus, HTC, LG, Samsung, and Sony with Android system, and sorted out 15 function icons including Data flow, Volume, Battery, Accessibility, Storage space, Display, and so on from the "setting" function icons. It used 14 groups of words to conduct shape cognitive appraisal via semantic differential method and survey of mobile operating behavior. The subjects were mainly users in Taiwan from 18 to 40 years old with valid samples of 244 people (male, 47.9%, women 52.1%). This study found that the "setting" interface icons of smartphones can be classified into five types, namely wireless network, communication transmission, flow display, device operation, and system information. Good-looking appearance, easy interface operation, brand reputation, good camera, and high resolution are the main factors influencing the decision to purchase mobiles. The usages of mobiles mainly cover looking up for information via the Internet, chatting in online community, taking photos, and making phone calls. The frequency of use and usage vary significantly in terms of gender, occupation, and other conditions. Women mostly use mobiles for social contact and leisure, while men for practical operation. The factors influencing the cognitive appraisal of icon shapes are classified into three categories, i.e., functional cognition, shape structure, and visual psychology. The spatial distribution results of the coordinates of factor appraisal have reflected that all the icons are widely distributed in the coordinates of functional cognition and shape structure. There are also big differences in terms of cognitive roles. For instance, icons like wireless network and data flow have clear shape and easy operation, whereas icons like communication transmission and system information are the opposite. In terms of the coordinate distribution of visual psychological factors, all the icons are focused. It is thus concluded that icons with the setting function are popular and of familiar designs with small difference in the cognitive appraisal of visual psychology. In summary, the results of this study will provide reference to the field of interface design or visual communication design and also the interface design of electronic products in the future.
