Summary: | 碩士 === 國立雲林科技大學 === 應用外語系 === 104 === Busy with daily works, people choose to receive the latest information or major events occurring around the world by reading news. A growing number of language instructors and curriculum designers believe that students’ language proficiency will be effectively enhanced when journalistic reading practices are applied. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the influence of journalistic reading and translating instructions on students’ written English.
The research included 30 adult learners from a language center in central Taiwan. They were randomly divided into two groups: the control group which received an instruction based on Grammar-translation Method (GTM); the experimental group which received an instruction based on contrastive analysis and journalistic reading and translating were applied.
To assess the subjects’ writing enhancement from the two groups, the pretest and posttest were administrated. The results suggested that there was a significant improvement on writing proficiency in the experimental group.
