One of these activities, the trend of bicycling around the perimeter of the island, is prevalent enough to be used as an index for the present study. Exploring the island by bicycle can be perceived as a significant adventure. This study examines challenge perception in such cyclists and how this perceived challenge affects flow experience, in turn affecting life satisfaction. The researchers constructed a four-part survey for cyclists involved in Taiwan-perimeter journeys that is intended to establish a linear relationship between challenge perception, flow experience, and life satisfaction, as well as investigating the correlation of these factors with demographic variables related to the participants. A 13-day span of time was chosen, between January to March of 2016, to survey those bicycling around the perimeter of Taiwan, using the convenience sampling method; a total of 277 valid questionnaires were returned. The collected demographic data were analyzed by SPSS 19.0 software, and LISREL 8.8 software was used to examine the purported lineal relationship between flow experience and life satisfaction. The results show that bicycling around the island's perimeter involves challenge perception mainly regarding environmental uncertainty and respondents’ degree of satisfaction. Teammates’ ability to cooperate as a team positively affected team loyalty. There were positive correlations between challenge perception and flow experience, between flow experience and life satisfaction, and between challenge perception and life satisfaction. Uncertainty of terrain is directly and positively related to flow experience, and it indirectly and positively affects life satisfaction. Teamwork ability is directly and positively affecting flow experience, and indirectly positive influences life satisfaction. Finally, based on the findings of this study and its conclusions, implications and recommendations are presented for specific levels of academic and business management; recommendations for future research are proposed, as well.
