Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立雲林科技大學 === 創意生活設計系 === 104 === The characteristics of the design style and the interpretation of culture can be seen from furniture products, yet with the development of industrial technology and information technology, the disseminating of popular styles have sped up even further, allowing the general public to know a thing or two about furniture styles. However, it is still difficult for those who have not received professional design education to be able to identify and understand styles. Therefore, this study is focused on investigating the histories of Chinese and Western furniture, based on the use of literature analysis, to determine the relevance between the cultural influences of Chinese and Western furniture. Through the representation of a timeline, we would be able to understand the historical context of the Chinese and Western furniture development, and individual case studies and form analyses are used to find the influence factor of Chinese Ming horseshoe armchairs on the design style of Hans J. Wegner horseshoe armchairs, as well as the importance that Hans J. Wegner horseshoe armchairs have on the development of modern furniture design. A further comparison of the Hans J. Wegner horseshoe armchairs designs would be conducted by corresponding the actual measurements with the human factor measurements. By way of design implementation and testing, the form designs of the Chinese Ming horseshoe armchairs and the Hans J. Wegner horseshoe armchairs would be simulated, in order to understand the impact relationship between style, shape, material, and technology. The analysis, design, and implementation experience derived from this would be used as reference for current and future chair designs. Therefore, this study has the following three objectives: (1) to understand the evolution of furniture style from the historical context of furniture history, (2) to analyze the relevance in terms of the style aspect between the Chinese Ming horseshoe armchair and the Hans J. Wegner horseshoe armchair, (3) based on the principle of analyzing the aspect of style, it could be used as an application design element for furniture design creations, and offer a new way of thinking for horseshoe armchairs. The study revealed that Western designers are more prominent in the use of design styles on furniture designs, and industry technology has been greatly enhanced due to technological advancements without sacrificing the expression of craft techniques. However, the style of the Ming furniture from over 500 years ago is appearing in modern Western furniture designs. Therefore, the style of the Ming furniture is defined as a pioneer in modern furniture style by this study. Through the design thinking and industrial production method of Hans J. Wegner, a variation of differences can be created between modern furniture and traditional structure, and the relevance between style and history can be presented. Due to the fact that this study explores the applications of furniture history, furniture style, and design methods, the hope is that those who are like-minded in the furniture industry and design education development would enhance the concept of furniture development origin and the understanding of furniture style impact, and provide recommendations on style analysis and design creations.
