Summary: | 碩士 === 吳鳳科技大學 === 光機電暨材料研究所 === 104 === The main purpose of this thesis is to numerically simulate the propagation of electromagnetic (EM) fields through dielectric cylinders with either circular or square cross-section in two dimensions, in order to investigate the feasibility of the replacement of circular cylinder with square cylinder for the following reasons. The grid system for circular cylinder is large in total number of grid and therefore takes up large memory size and computing resources. It also increases the difficulty and complexity in building grid system for array of circular cylinders. The use of square cylinder would lighten the burden. The numerical method employed in the present research is the method of characteristics. The computational results demonstrated include snapshots of electric and magnetic field intensities along the symmetric axes of the numerical model at several time instances, the electric and magnetic field intensities recorded at the cylinder center as functions of time, and the corresponding spectra.
