The future trend of design will be Ultrabook and the laptop computers with the function of tablets. The design for the exterior is also closely related to fashion, and many factors of patterns and design have been added to the exterior in recent years. However, those designs generally focus on the top cover of laptop computers, using different colors and materials to make changes as the mainstream, but rarely focus on the base cover patterns. The main purpose of the research is to probe the ventilation hole patterns on the base cover of the laptop computers and the research is separated into two parts to undertake. First, we modify the ventilation hole patterns on the current products through 3D graphs before preparation experiment and use the questionnaire survey in the first phase to collect the intuitive adjectives of the public on the ventilation hole patterns on the base cover of laptop computers. The official experiment makes a classification on the ventilation hole patterns on the current laptop computers on the market, and designs the ventilation hole patterns on the base cover for the questionnaire in the second phase according to the positive and negative adjectives we got in the first phase. After we make a statistical analysis, we can realize the preference and thoughts of consumers on the ventilation hole patterns on the base cover, which is beneficial to the design direction of the future products. The concrete results of the research will be as follows. First, consumers use a lot of adjectives to describe the ventilation hole patterns on the base cover of laptop computers. This research probes more deeply by respective positive and negative adjectives, which are technological, stylish, interesting, senseless, monotonous, and messy. This part proves that the characters of the ventilation hole patterns on the base cover can create the corresponding adjectives. Second, this research presents the obvious difference on both monotonous and messy parts. On the part of monotonous adjective, the direction of the ventilation hole patterns being consistent are more monotonous than those being symmetric, and the symmetric and concentrated patterns are more monotonous than scattered patterns. On the part of messy adjective, the direction of the ventilation hole patterns being symmetric are messier than those being consistent. While on the part of ventilation hole area, the scattered patterns are messier than symmetric and concentrating patterns. Therefore, based on the results of the research, the design of the ventilation hole patterns on the base cover in the future is recommended to be simple and minimal, and the direction of the ventilation hole patterns on the base cover should be symmetric, and the area of the ventilation hole patterns on the base cover should also be symmetric to meet the preference of consumers.
