Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺北藝術大學 === 文創產業國際藝術碩士學位學程 === 104 === Throughout the ages we have seen many artists organizing exhibitions and taking on the curatorial role. In history we have seen that artists have played a tremendous role in the shaping and development of the exhibition making practice to how we know it today. This paper will explore the notion of the artist-curator through the context of the developmental process and curatorial practice of the exhibition “Naturally Creative” (November 21, 2015). By looking at the developmental process of the exhibition “Naturally Creative” this paper will explore the changeover of roles from the artist to the curator. Today, the curatorial practice is known to consist out of a vast array of different tasks which often poses many challenges for the artist who does not have experience in all these fields. This paper identifies some challenges faced by the artist when taking on the curatorial role. The exhibition “Naturally Creative” (November 21, 2015) was an international cross-cultural exhibition which explored creativity amongst the Taiwanese Aboriginal people and the San / Bushmen from Southern Africa. This exhibition included artwork from Taiwanese Aboriginal artists as well as artwork from the Kuru Art Project from Botswana. This paper presents the challenges faced by indigenous artists in the contemporary art mainstream and explores the role of indigenous art within a contemporary society.
