Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺南藝術大學 === 應用藝術研究所 === 104 === Insects and humanity are part of the animal world but rarely if ever viewed as representing life in the same way. The reflections generated by this contradiction made insects important elements in my creative work all through graduate school. As such, I used creative work to draw attention to life approximate to an object and this led to an exploration of the ambiguous state of life between imagination and reality. This written report is divided into five parts; Chapter one describes the evolutionary history of insects and animal ethics as a vehicle for a wide ranging discussion on the relationship between humanity and insects and thereby forces us to reflect on the importance of insects in our own lives; Chapter two uses brass as a material to depict insects, in an effort to represent their dynamic through different mechanism and structures; Chapter three uses the dead bodies of insects in works attaching them to mechanism and recreating their movement before the moment of death. In point of fact, the decision to use insects as an integral part of my work created an ethical conflict and resulted in much self-reflection; Chapter four attempts to move away from the habits of the past in terms of creative work and materials and influenced by the environment and life feel the work grow; Chapter five brings together the importance of “movement” and sound in my works.
