This study analyzes the part distortion in arc welding using Taguchi method. The Simufact Welding software is used to simulate and analyze the part distortion in arc welding. This study employs four factors, related to the quality and the cost, to investigate the influence in welding. The factors include (A) welding voltage, (B) welding current, (C) welding speed, and (D) material of electrode pole. This study uses Taguchi method with L_9 (3^4) orthogonal table and S/N ratio to analyze the welding influence for the determination of optimal parameter. The important factor verified and experiment error evaluated are implemented through the variance analysis. The predicted value and calculated value are used to demonstrate experimental results through confidence interval. Simulation results showed that the factors, C and D, can reduce the variation of the material and decrease the defective fraction of welding. The factor A can improve the welding quality to achieve the desired manufacturing quality. The factor B can be employed to reduce the welding cost. The part distortion in welding reduces from 0.54 mm to 0.395 mm and the welding cost decreases from 99000 J to 48225 J in the electric power consumed and from 22.5 s to 12.86 s in the welding time after parameter optimization.
