Photovoltaics material industry is not only important to technological change of the downstream industry, but also its added value is higher than the general manufacturing industry and the traditional chemical industry, which attracts many investments.
The study begins with the analysis of photovoltaics material industry development trend, and utilizes competitive strategy theory to explore the future competitive strategy of photovoltaics material industry in Taiwan. We expect the companies can create the best competitive advantage by their core value. The results of the study are as follows:
1. The industry trends: at the present stage, Taiwan solar cell manufacturers have superior quality and high conversion efficiency and become the main partners for foundry in mainland China module manufacturers. Since the OEM cost is higher in the past, some Taiwan battery manufactures have to improve harvest rate. The companies have to fulfill the orders to cover part of the equipment depreciation expense to maintain production and operation.
2. Solar energy industry current business problems: The industry has potential for long-term development. However, the industry will be affected by the supply and demand factors, and show a high degree of unbalanced phenomenon in the short term. Solar photovoltaic power generator is have to increase the installation will without government energy subsidy policy, and government policies are often affected by the political and economic situation and financial revenue and expenditure.
3. Major competitor status: A few manufacturers have developed very well and the Giga Solar Materials Corp. has high competitiveness in the industry. The company is unfavorable in the production capacity and sales channels.
4. Competitive strategy: The short-term plan, four in one or five in one material combination patterns can be applied in solar cells and solar power plant to accelerate the verification speed of customers. In long-term plan, companies have to conduct market assessment and invest large amount resources to research and development. Cultivating Taiwan and mainland China, actively expand the market of Europe and the United States, constantly develop high profitability products are also important.
