Summary:碩士 === 東海大學 === 美術學系 === 104 === This thesis will discourse upon the elements of Higashiyama Kaii’s landscape painting. Higashiyama Kaii was one of the representative artists of Nihonga and landscape painting in modern time after World War II. How did Higashiyama Kaii accomplish his works, his circumstances, inner transformation and pursuing, and how he contributed his inner view of life by landscape paintings are the main issues of this thesis. Chapter one includes background, motivation, purpose, and expected results of the research. Chapter two are introduction of Higashiyama Kaii, and the background characteristic of time. Chapter three are concepts in western culture, Japanese culture and Japanese style ink paintings which influenced Higashiyama Kaii’s work of art. Chapter four is the analysis of Higashiyama Kaii’s works in different periods of time for being aware his style of works. Chapter five summarizes the former parts, analyzing three possibilities that of how Higashiyama Kaii’s landscape painting formed. Those three possibilities were expressing the emotion between traveling and nostalgia buy landscape paintings, the cyan color in his works, and once in a lifetime with people, events and things. Chapter six concludes all the former parts. Higashiyama Kaii’s works shows two extremes, for example, traveling and nostalgia, sketching from nature and indoor, and using of colors. Higashiyama Kaii contributed his personal style by keeping balance in those extremes in his works.
