It is a mirror that enables me to face my inner self and, through art, project the feelings and memories buried deep within my heart. The meaning and essence of creating art is not only a projection of one’s life experiences but also an understanding of life. The accumulation of the perceptual impressions experienced in life becomes an interminable memory, while the memories of dreamland felt by every cell in the body paints a landscape of the soul that is hidden beneath the conscious. I ultimately recreated the original posture and life of these impressions onto a number of canvases. Rene Descartes (1596—1650) once said: I think, therefore I am. This well-known line led me to realize that I remember, therefore I am. As for the value of individual life, I came to understand the process through memory and recollection, doubt and awareness. The space of real life allows one’s indulgences to exist in the world of memory. Simple, candid compositions can depict one’s life, as well as intimate and important figures, matters, or objects. Experimenting with colors, contours, forms, and other creative elements also allows for memory to be authentically recreated. The topic of “Land of dreams and Memories” serves as a springboard for elaborating upon the research ideas of this thesis. The first step is to create images of the dreamland memories hidden deep within the heart. By creatively recording the different stages of life, I expect to arrive at a clearer understanding of societal interaction – positive interaction, conflict, or more – and to use that understanding as creative inspiration. On a psychological level, this includes examining the diverse understandings and ways of thinking about interpersonal relations, leading to deeper explanation and discussion. Additionally, this will identify the representational meaning and metaphorical expressions found in the symbols and imagery that I use during the creative process. The first section will discuss the motivation for the research, research goals, research areas, and glossary related to the methodology. The second section will use relevant literature to explore the spirit of Van Gogh, the poeticism of Klee, and the homesickness of Chagall. Western artists and their way of thinking will serve as a context to shed light on the perspectives found in my creative work. The third section will analyze the creative concept of individual paintings, based on three groupings: momentum and lines; mental imagery and color; and separation and formation. Moreover, I will use “Memories of Homesickness,” “Memories of Dreamland,” and other topics to convey my viewpoint, along with borrowing the experiences of others to expound upon the argument and topic I have created. Next, the fourth section delves into the actual painting creation, analyzing and explaining the creation elements behind select artwork. Last, the conclusion in the fifth section discusses future creative plans and expectations, along with drafting a defined creative guide. To me, reconstructing individual memories is an expression of one’s thoughts and feelings toward life; of one’s thoughts toward nature and dreams; or of one’s nostalgia for home. This process is a kind of recollection about life and a life philosophy. In interpreting the nature of my life memories, I hope that under the brushstrokes of spontaneity and freedom, a moment’s memories and feelings can last forever.
