碩士 === 東海大學 === 建築學系 === 104 === From West to East After Vitruvius' book "De Architectura", the Western world regarded architecture as an established knowledge and expertise. In the same period, Chinese building is one of the means of class oppression in the Confucian ethics. Even now the eastern architecture theory still not exists. From the cultural center to the local culture The concept that county governments establish cultural centers and galleries is originated from the Western world; the way that collects and exhibits cultural relics has limitations and contradictions. Culture was born in local, which get strong by taking in local life as nutrients. Regard exhibition as its birthplace is just like consider zoo as natural environment, so it is unreasonable to remove relics from its original location. From old Street into townhouses The imagination of Taiwan’s historical streets is often confined to the linear space which is defined by old townhouses facade. Hidden behind the facade is a lesser-known world. How to deal with those historical townhouses spread all over Taiwan and how to face them? To make the public impression of historical Street not only confined in the image of the space between street facades and shops, but also go deep into the townhouse spaces.
