Summary: | 碩士 === 亞洲大學 === 休閒與遊憩管理學系碩士在職專班 === 104 === Adolescents cultivate their value systems via the process of socialization. Among these, it includes the attitudes toward and the evaluation of sports and schoolwork. Additionally, adolescents spend a significant amount of time at home and school; thus the importance of these two contexts cannot be ignored. The purpose of this study is to explore participants’ implicit attitudes toward sports and schoolwork by means of the Implicit Association Test (ITA) developed by Greenwald, McGhee, and Schwartz in 1998. The test was administrated to a total of 132 participants, including 11 junior high school physical education teachers, subject teachers, parents and students, coming from Northern, Middle, and Southern Taiwan.
The research findings include: (1) Students tend to associate academic activities with positive evaluation on the IAT, (2) Parents tend to associate academic activities with positive evaluation on the IAT, (3) Subject teachers tend to associate academic activities with positive evaluation on the IAT, (4) There is no significant preference between physical and academic activities on the IAT of physical teachers, (5) There is no significant correlation between physical and academic scores of IAT and those of self-efficacy for students, (5) There is no significant correlation between physical and academic scores of IAT and those of self-efficacy for parents, and (6) There is no significant relationship between parental efficacy and the parent-child preference consistency, but parent-child interaction efficacy is.
It is found that, under the influence of academic socialization, parents and teachers regards academic activities positively while adolescents are still exploring their career choices. The analysis from this study indicates that some adolescents are affected by the effect of academic socialization. This phenomenon can be explained by the fact that academic activities and career development are greatly emphasized in Taiwanese society. As a result, I suggest that the educators and the society pay more attention to the significance of sports. Specifically, it is beneficial that schools promote the balance between sports and academic activities, the government provides more career choices relevant to sports, parents and teachers enhance their understanding of sports and career choices. It is my hope that, through these strategies, the balance of sports and academic activities can be achieved.
