Nurse Assistant is the largest part of the professional long-term care human resources. According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare, about 110,000 people had completed the nurse assistant training and receive the nurse assistant certificate by the end of 2015. However, there were only about 20,000 people actually engaged in the long-term care service. According to the Council for Economic Planning and Development, the situation of insufficient manpower to take care occurs in about 50% of the cities of Taiwan. The employment issues after nurse assistant training should be valued in order to cope with the demand of long-term care human resources. Purpose: This study was intended to exploring the employment status after nurse assistant training in Taichung Area. Method: A data base of employment status after nurse assistant training between 2014 to 2015 was provided by a training organization in central part of Taiwan, and a total of 363 subjects were included for analyzing. Results: Nurse Assistant trainees were mostly females amounted to 74.6% and middle age with a senior high school or vocational education. The leading motivation for taking nurse assistant training was looking for employment (43.8%), the employment rate after training was only 50.4%. Several factors related to working situation were significance influenced employment status, such as physical strength, attendance skill, work time, high job stress, low wage,workplace bullying, occupational injury… Conclusion: The nursing assistant employment rate after training was still low. The factors reducing work motivation of nurse assistant is mostly because of the working situation. Long-term care is labor intensive, and the nursing assistant is the person who directly contact and to get along with caregiver-care receiver, and also the person who direct providing services. Their employment status will affect the quality of the long-term care, and in turn the healthcare and quality of life of residents in long-term care facilities.
