| Summary: | 碩士 === 慈濟大學 === 宗教與人文研究所 === 104 === This essay aims to delve and employ the concept of “individuation” , which C.G. Jung stated, to interpret the meaning of affliction and it’s beneficiary to individual’s self- awareness and completion of life.
I shall employ three literatures to analyze how will the archetype of unconscious inspire or ignite individual’s internal impulse and conflict thus force individual to face his or her deep inner self. Meanwhile, through this psychological process, he or she may transform oneself to state of ultimate life completion.
Affliction may have been a negative impression for most of the ordinary people when one undergoes the experiences of suffering, pain and helpless. For most of us, so often we choose to tolerate it quietly and yet according to C.G. Jung’s theory of “Individuation”, one might better aware of this that affliction has not merely just a torture experience, neither has it been a meaningless devastative event, nor as a punishment from God, but as a “divine calling” as well as an opportunity to delve the deeper self and reach the fundamental meaning of human life.
The affliction of an individual is derived from the rupture of originated inner complete consciousness. The oppression and elimination on unconsciousness have caused incompletion and divergence of one’s spirituality. Accordingly, it results of conflict and struggle amid unconsciousness. The essay postulates that the intertwined among “Self”, “Instinct”, “Complexes”, and “Shadow” generates certain types of psychological phenomenon of which combines with contradiction between “Anima” and “Animus”, thus, affliction is raised. The affliction that has been derived form this intertwined conflicts force one to face the need and existence of his or her unconsciousness.
Affliction may paralyze the sense of rationality and compel individual to transform into one’s inner exploration. Affliction is pivotal to the door of unconsciousness and it may lead oneself to be involved in the abundant oceanic unconsciousness. It eventually brings one to be united with true and complete self, as a drop of water melted into ocean. The seeking of the unification of human spirit has long been embedded in our world from generations to generations. The intrinsic force leads us to reach the divine destiny of human being from egocentricity to ultimate realization of Life.
