Description
Summary:碩士 === 慈濟大學 === 人類發展學系碩士班 === 104 === Purpose: The purpose of the current study is to analyze studies that target substance use behaviors in adolescents to understand the effects of parenting functions and peer relations on adolescents’ substance use. Methods: A systematic search of published longitudinal studies of adolescents’substance use between 1988 and 2013 identified 57 relevant articles. The selection of studies encompassed two phases, in the first one, studies were excluded if substance use was combined with other diagnoses, examining treatment effects, or experimental design studies. In the second phase, studies were included if measurements of parenting functions and peer relations during adolescence as predictors, and outcome measurement of substance use during adolescence at age between 12-18. Among the 57 relevant studies, 39 of them provided enough data for meta analyses. Results: The results revealed that peer substance use behavior had greater influence on adolescents than the same behavior of parents. However, good parenting, including monitoring adolescent behavior in general, disapproval of adolescent substance use, parental support, and communication, predicted less adolescents’ substance behavior. Our findings highlight the importance of parental involvement in adolescents’ substance use prevention and intervention.
