Therefore, the quality of buildings has been once again put into emphasis. Houses are considered as the most important human material property. Most people spend at least a half day in buildings every day; hence, how to extend the life time of buildings and strengthen the quality of buildings becoming a major issue. However, the methods and materials of building renovation are various and complicated, it is necessary to obtain opinions and assistance from specialists for those who need to reconstruct buildings. To promote competitiveness of building renovation, builders and contractors have to improve their services to be more customized approach so as to enhance the efficiency of communication with customers, thereby increasing customers’ satisfactions with the process of reconstruction. This study intends to strengthen the efficiency of communication with customers and promote the professional image of enterprises through author’s personal experiences in remodeling and reconstruction as well as professional knowledge. This research primarily discusses roof heat insulation and external wall renovation, which are the frequent problems of reconstruction. Based on author’s six years renovation experiences with I Know Pet Shop and in-depth interview with managers, field supervisors, on-site workers, this study creates comparison lists of construction methods such as: roof heat insulation, autoclaved lightweight concrete (ALC) v.s. polyfoam heat-shield-brick, and external wall renovation, pebble paving v.s. tile/rectangular tile. The comparison can benefit communication between contractors and customers and can also help employees develop efficient communication skills and professional knowledge of house renovation to greatly improve service quality. Finally, based on the current unit prices of roof heat insulation and external wall renovation, this research provides recommendations for renovation methods with different budgets. It is hoped that the integration of construction experiences and various house renovation methods described in this study will help small enterprises of traditional industry to boost their customized service quality as well as competitiveness.
