Whenever people talk about the modern history of Taiwan, they will include a particular topic-Juancun, a military dependents’ village. It is the place where the army soldiers and their dependents who retreated from mainland China to Taiwan after the Chinese Civil War lived and grew. The culture of Juancun is a product of the turning point in Taiwan’s history. It impacted the local culture to bring out a new culture. However, due to several factors – improvement of economy, increasing population and social problems – the government decreed a city-rebuilding plan that demolished old and battered houses in the area of Juancun in 2006 (95 in Taiwan years). Although this action convenienced the people who lived there, it relinquished the close relationship between neighbors. The events of culture loss happen in different countries or ethnic groups daily. Every second, every minute and every day, the cultures are continuously disappearing. Hence, it is urgent and necessary to preserve a historic and meaningful culture. This research was conducted by visiting a rich-culture country, Japan, to observe and participate in the culture-experiencing activities including recording data and investigating the local area. With the experience obtained from the culture-experiencing activities and the discussion with experts, an Active Model A was created. This model was focused on the research of the Juancuns at the Zuoying district, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The research referred to the information from the retrospective literature to understand the current conditions of Juancun. Based on the Active Model A, a Zuoying Active Model B was produced by participating in the cultural activity in Zuoying Juancun and interviewing the experts of Juancun. Some appropriate suggestions for the Active Model A and B were provided by experts. The final result of this research was a modified Active Model C, which adopted the advantages of Active Model A and improved the drawbacks of Active Model B. Active Model C was obtained for intended use on the Juancun at Zuoying. This result can also be used as a reference for creating the cultural activities of the Juancun at Zuoying in future. The reason for studying the culture-experiencing activities is for understanding the Juancun culture and learning the precious knowledge and its meaning. The purpose for the culture-experiencing activities is many-fold. It is not only to awaken the cultural self-identity from the people who lived in Juancun but also to understand the value of preservation, and furthermore to comprehend the spirit of culture. It transforms the information and skills that were obtained from the activities into practical experience and extends their benefit to others. It solves the problems of culture loss and extinguishes the conflict between the ethnic groups. Most of all, it extends the function of these activities.
