However, there is no specific definition or category of “civilian heroes”. Moreover, whether traditional three-act structure can be applied to the story of civilian heroes is still not verified. Therefore, this study tried to find out the definition and category of civilian heroes, and to examine whether we can present the story of civilian heroes with the traditional three-act structured play. Two steps of questionnaires were carried out in this study. Professional screenwriters and the general public were invited to the test for each questionnaire in order to verify “civilian heroes’ features” and “civilian heroes’ play structure”. According to literature review, the “Civilian heroes’ features” were collected for questionnaire. The results showed that the general public can clearly catch the civilian heroes’ features by the script, but not the professional screenwriters. As for the “civilian heroes’ play structure” which was based on the literature and theory of Christopher Vogler’s “12 stages of heroes’ journey”, civilian heroes’ characteristics in three-act plays are emphasized. The second survey showed that both the general public and screenwriters agreed with this study’s propose of civilian heroes’ play structure, which was “lay”, “motivation”, “try to change”, “crisis” and “unexpected help”. But in the third act the characteristic of “silently at their posts” was not that obviously seen. Therefore, this last part of the scene needs to be modified. In terms of the script, the screenwriters agreed with the proposed new framework, but they kindly suggested me how to improve and complete the script by showing me some lines, arrange scenes, and portraying roles. With these recommendations, the work will be improved and this research will be helpful for creators to use the civilian heroes’ structure in scriptwriting.
