The study of sexual attitudes and sexual communication of Elementary and Junior High School parents：Using Nanzhou Township, Pingtung County as an example

碩士 === 樹德科技大學 === 人類性學研究所 === 104 === The purpose of this study was to understand the attitude of regional parents for the sex, sexual communication behavior and correlation between them in Nanzhou Township, Pingtung County. The quantitative research method was used to summarize and analyze data. The parents of their children in the National Elementary and Junior High schools in Nanzhou Township, Pingtung County area were as the sample of "The target parent groups" for this study. The result of the study was that there were a total of 406 valid samples. The conclusions were as follows: 1. The children''s parents in the National Elementary and Junior High schools in Nanzhou Township Pingtung County area with different backgrounds in "Age", "Martial Status", "Ethnic Group", "Children of Different Grades" were no significant correlation with their sexual attitude to "Masturbation", "Homosexuality", "Gender Roles", and "the Overall Situation of Sexualities". The female parents had less stereotypes for gender than the male parents had. The parents with "Bachelor''s degree", "Master''s degree", having faith in" Kuan Tao" and being "the Public Employees" had more liberal minded toward "Homosexuality". The parents with "Bachelor''s degree" and being "the Public Employees" had more acceptance of "Masturbation". The parents with "Master''s Degree", having faith in "Kuan Tao" and being "the Public Employees" had more positive attitude to "the Overall Situation". However, the parents with "Elementary and Junior high school Degree", "No Religious Belief", "Religion of Taoism" and worked as "Peasants" and "Workers" were more conservative about all aspects of "Sexual Attitude". 2. There was no significant correlation between the different backgrounds of parents in "Age", "Genders", "Religious Beliefs", "Ethnic Groups", "Occupations" and the communication behavior in "talking about sexual issues", "the degree of freedom when talking about sexual issues", and "the frequency to talking about sexual issues". The parents with "Bachelor''s Degree" and "Master''s Degree" can talk about "Gender Roles", "Homosexuality", and "Masturbation" with their children. There were also more comfortable feeling when talking sex-related issues and higher frequency to do so. "Unmarried" parents were more likely to talk about sexual issues with children. "Married" parents were more positive toward overall sexual communication behavior. The parents of the children from four to six grades in elementary school had more proactive behavior in "talking about sexual issues", "feeling comfortable when talking about it", and "the overall sexual communication". However, the parents who were with "Elementary and Junior high school Degree", "Senior high school Degree", "Cohabitation Status" and their children were from first to third grades in junior high school had more negative attitude toward communication behavior. Even many parents never talked about sex-related issues with children. These revealed that the parents in overall sexual communication behavior still had to make efforts to enhance and to improve. 3. The parents with the higher attitude toward "Masturbatoin" of the children were in elementary and junior high school in Nanzhou Township in Pingtung County, the more willing to talk about "Sex-related topics" they had. Moreover, they also felt more comfortable when talking about it. However, there were lower correlation between "the attitude toward masturbation " and "the frequency in talking about sexual issues". Thus, though the parents had positive sexual attitude, they ignored or escaped from the sensitive topics and the topics being directly with sexual organs . Other aspects in the viewpoint of and attitude toward "Homosexuality" and "Gender Roles" had lower correlation with "talking about sex-related issues", "feeling comfortable when talking about it" and "the frequency to talk about it". Based on the above, even if the more positive attitude the parents had, they still had not only some apprehension about talking about sex-related issues, whether feeling comfortable when talking about it and the frequency to talk about it, but were shamed for them due to the people being conservative in Nanzhou Township area.
