the trend of rewrite best-selling novels into screenplay, even more, noticed the wave of
Holmes mystery flush through whole world once again. Movie Sherlock Holmes
published on 2009, TV series Sherlock broadcasted on 2010, Movie sequel Sherlock
Holmes:A Game of Shadows published on 2011, TV series Elementary broadcasted on
2012, Movie Mr. Holmes published on 2015 and Sherlock’s special episode on theater
The Abominable Bride on 2016, a string of Holmes main-lead adaptation appeared on
movie and TV screen, success on different aspects.
In all works of Sherlock Holmes, researcher chose Sherlock as main object for its
creativity of changing background from Victorian age to 21 century. Analyzed its plot,
character and promotion strategies to see how these elements affect it popularity with text
analysis, then depth interviewed audiences who love the show, to see the reason of
watching Sherlock, why they are obsessed of it, and can fan group urge individual
audience to purchase related merchandise. After data collected and integrated, researcher
hope to know the reason of Sherlock’s popularity, and sort out the elements that can be
used as references for other production teams, finally clarifies what elements made a
popular TV series.
