Description
Summary:碩士 === 實踐大學 === 時尚與媒體設計研究所 === 104 === “Streaming generation is an installation of visuals and sounds” Being that this streaming media has now became our worlds most popular way of accessing new music - all we must do is simply click the songs we like in the given applications. These applications include Youtube, Spotify, Soundcloud, and far more. This, “easy-access,” offered to our generation gives us a chance to identify not only our own selves, but also our own self’s interests. However, with this streaming generation, comes a new kind of company advertising which can cause a disturbance when trying to navigate around the page itself. This information is often irrelevant becoming an utter disturbance and/or distraction while working, ultimentally making my overall experience of social media and entertainment online not as enjoyable. So called, “traditional hardware facilities of music,” such as vinyls, tapes, and CD disks, are now replaced by some sort of cloud-like software. Wireless networks transport data onto our devices, whereas each signal contains the soul of artists. In turn, the appreciation and essence of the music is stripped away from the musicians soul. Times existed where one could walk into a record store and spend time seeking the albums of which they love and genuinely appreciate; perhaps then to play it on his or her own equipment of their choice. This shows how times have changed, and our social generation is moving forward, fast. For example, it feels like a sudent stab my sensory system when an irrelevant commercial comes on screen. At that sudden moment, I am stripped of the excitement, and as a musician, I feel that is unfair to the user. It is known that there is an underlying effect that music has on a person, and one should not be stripped of this due to a 20 second paid commercial not pertaining to the music whatsoever. Consider YouTube, which continuously has the ability to have access to the, “whats new,” yet using an invasive way of advertising before one can even access the video. I ponder how long we can continue to enjoy the simple pleasure of easy access to music, and I begin to think, in turn, we will miss the utmost important part of listening to music; simply the happiness that it brings. This streaming generation narrates not only chaos, but also an enduring aesthetic when one gets to hear the tune they choose. With a streaming generation like so, who knows what to expect. Through my eyes, without expectations, I present it to you with appreciation, pride, and objectivity.
