Summary: | 碩士 === 靜宜大學 === 英國語文學系 === 104 === This project aims to examine the responses of college students in Taiwan as to their perception of romance reading of the film, The Notebook. The major investigation of this paper is the sex differences on the reading of the film per se. The research uses qualitative analysis of a focus group discussion to analyze the data collected by the interview’s responses.
The methodology is based on the experimental focus interviews and the participants are sophomore students from Providence University (PU) in Taiwan. The subjects are a combination of 20 students, who are divided into 10 females in a group and 10 males in another.
The findings are that the audiences of a different sex perceived romance quite differently in the film, The Notebook, on the aspects of the nature of beauty and sacrifices. The males believe that the love story is exaggerated, and the females are more in favor of the film than the males. These findings will help to better understand various perceptions regarding romance, and to distinguish the differences of female and male values.
