Two experiments have been conducted. The first was a slitting experiment, which applied experimental method to investigate the influences of the tool feed rate and spindle revolving speed on the roughness of a slitting slot with the width of 0.8mm. The second one was a short-slot end milling experiment assisted with an ultrasonic vibration. The ultrasonic device was installed on the workpiece side to discuss the effects of vibration intensity on the surface roughness of the side-wall and slot bottom. The vibration frequency was in 7000~8000Hz. The width of machined slot is 5.0mm. The experimental results reveal that raising the spindle revolving speed and lowering the tool feed rate can obtain an improvement of 5dB on the S/N ratio in the case of the slitting slot experiment. It greatly advances the quality loss. In the short-slot end milling experiment, applying an ultrasonic vibration can improve the milling surface to the fine-machined grade with the Ra under 0.25μm. However, the influence of the vibration intensity on the slot bottom is greater than the slot side-wall. The roughness of the slot bottom can also reach 0.3377μm.
