Summary:博士 === 國立虎尾科技大學 === 光電與材料科技研究所 === 104 === In this desertation, a 1310/1550 nm demultiplexer based on a bended multimode interference (MMI) waveguide is proposed and optically characterized as well. The multi-sectional bend waveguides are utilzed to optimize the output loss. The results show that the output losses have been dramatically reduced due to the low bending loss for bended MMI and coherent coupled bended output waveguides. Besides, an optical filter based on photonic crystal structure with liquid crystal is proposed. The simulation results reveal that filters with 6 liquid crystal nano-rods on each side of the rhombus cavity have dramatic filtering characteristics, especially, with liquid crystal of refractive index ne=1.741, a drop channel at wavelength λ=1546.4nm with a 3dB bandwidth of 0.8nm are obtained. These characteristics are applicable in DWDM optical communication systems.
