mainly implements two cooperative learning methods : Student's Team Achievement Division (STAD),and Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) to improve her English teaching efficiency and to encourage students to help each other.
The purposes of this study is to investigate the effects of cooperative learning on English reading comprehension and learning attitude of 8th grade students in the countryside school. To find out the relative problems and difficulties when using cooperative learning in real English class. Then to discover solutions to solve those problems. Through constantly reflections and revisions to improve teaching strategies and students’ learning interests. After using cooperative learning strategy in the countryside school, it could have positive effects on students’ English learning attitude and achievement. The participants are five boys and eight girls at 8th grade in the countryside school and using action research as research method. This action research is lasted for about twelve weeks on six lessons. The data collection included journal evaluations, group evaluations, students’ reading comprehension tests, worksheets, interviews and video recordings. Qualitative materials are mainly adopted. The triangulation is used to support the reliability and validity of the research. The results are as follows:
1. To understand the impact of cooperative learning on English reading comprehension.
2. To understand the impact of cooperative learning on English reading motivation.
3. To encourage more teachers to use cooperative learning.
4. The teachers could promote their professional growth by using cooperative learning.
