碩士 === 國立高雄大學 === 運動健康與休閒學系碩士班 === 104 === Recent research shows that about 73.2% of the junior high school students in Tainan have poor eyesight. Since the current studies related to vision care focus more on young kids, elementary school students and parents, little effort has been put on investigating junior high school students. As vision care should be continued into junior high school and also focus on prevention and correction of poor eyesight, we therefore expect to provide workable strategies and plans in this research for the promotions of vision care by investigating relationships and differences between or among current vision care knowledge, attitudes and behaviours of students with different vision situations.
This research is a cross-sectional study which applies multistage random sampling with certain Tainan City junior high school students as subjects to investigate the relationship of the background information, vision care knowledge, attitudes, behaviours and students with different vision situations and different degrees of myopia. The subjects of this research were 224 boys (50.1%) and 223 girls (49.9%). And 79.4% (335) of them had myopia, while the other 20.6% (92) didn’t. The data were collected by a self-designed structural questionnaire. 447 valid questionnaires were collected.
The data were then analyze by descriptive and inferential statistics on SPSS for Window 23.9. The distribution of the data was then shown by the frequency distribution table and cross tabulation. The difference and correlation between different vision situations (with or without myopia) and background information, vision care knowledge, attitudes and behaviors were analyzed by Pearson's chi-squared test, nonparametric statistics, the independent sample t-test, factor analysis, and the point bi-serial correlation coefficient. Binary logistic regression was used for multivariate analysis of the relationship between vision situations and background information, vision care knowledge, attitudes and behaviors, repectively.
The results of this research shows that about 79.4% of students from a certain Tainan City junior high school have myopia. The percentage is higher than the citywide survey with the junior high school students who have myopia. About 52.4% of them are female, and the other 47.6% are male. Students in the ninth grade are found to have the most cases (about 42.8%) of myopia, and students in the seventh grade are found to have the least cases (about 25.6%) of myopia. As regards to background knowledge, there is significant correlation
(p < 0.05) between myopia, and the grade and gender of the subjects, the vision situation of their parents and siblings, and the socioeconomic status of the family. As regards to vision care knowledge, there is significant difference (p < 0.05) between vision situation and vision care knowledge. Students with myopia are found to display better vision care knowledge than those without myopia. As regards to vision care attitudes, there is significant difference
(p < 0.05) between vision situations and vision care attitudes. Students with myopia are found to hold a more positive attitude than those without myopia. As for vision care behaviors, students without myopia are found to have better performance.
Based on the advanced investigation through factor analysis, the point bi-serial correlation coefficient, and binary logistic regression for the correlation between myopia and each of such factors as vision care knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors, it shows a positive correlation (p < 0.05) between myopia and vision care knowledge, attitude toward self-awareness of myopia, and the act of being regularly notified to have a vision check-up respectively.
This research shows that students with myopia are more active in the vision care attitude toward self-awareness of vision situations, but behave worse in regular use of the eyes and participation of outdoor activities than those without myopia. We’d like to suggest that efforts should be taken to help students cultivate the attitude toward self-awarenss of their own vision situations, enhance the practice of regular use of the eyes, and the behaviors and skills of outdoor activities in the hope to induce changes in behavior and reduce the occurrence of myopia.
