This thesis contains two parts. First part is to propose an active dipole antenna for digital television broadcast system which operates in Indonesia special band (290-320MHz & 500-650MHz). The antenna design properly arranges the associated ground plane and antenna layout as well as integrates the low noise amplifier into the antenna printed circuit board. Proposed a dipole antenna using the signal and the ground couple with each other to excite a broadband mode in the UHF band, and adding a folded antenna structure to excite the VHF band. With measurements, good performances of reflection coefficient, radiation pattern, and efficiency characteristics are validated. The measurement results agree well with simulation. The second part is to investigate switched-beam antennas for base station (smallcell). A dual-band, dual-polarized cross dipole array operated in LTE Band3 & Band7 is proposed. Moreover, the system has the reconfigurable circuit controlling the beamforming. By using two 1×3 RF switch and three unequal phase delay path changes the phase difference of the fed between the unit antenna. The control of beamforming uses the Arduino UNO board to provide the voltage signal. This antenna system has good matching and high directivity radiation pattern.
