In this project, the government focuses on helping and promoting “Backbone Middle standing Enterprises” with international competiveness, uniqueness in products or services and continuous cultivation of existing techniques. With all the efforts the government makes, economics in Taiwan will be more energetic and is not easily affected by outside economics entities. No matter how difficult the environment is or how many setbacks they have suffered from, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises in Taiwan are always eager and devoted to running business and ensuring their continuous operation. We hope there will be more Backbone Mittelstand Enterprises establishing robust economic basis and creating more stable and high-quality employments. In this study, we use FIRST; that are five key successful factors, including “Focus,” “International,” “Response,” “Service,” and “Technological innovation,” as the research methodology to conduct thorough interviews with Backbone Middle standing Enterprises in Taiwan, gather data related to FIRST and execute precise analyses to make it possible to find the differences of the successful factors between Backbone Middle standing Enterprises in Taiwan and hidden champion in Germany and also find the soft power of running business among Chinese people. Our goal is to find the key successful factors which will be the references and a successful path toward Middle standing Enterprises for those companies to learn from. Furthermore, we hope our findings will be also references for the authorities concerned to modify policy of execution of Middle standing Enterprises and make more enterprises become Middle standing Enterprises so as to create more economic benefits in Taiwan. In this study, when adopting FIRST analyses, we found out that there are no vivid differences between Hidden Champions” in Germany and Backbone Mittelstand Enterprises in Taiwan. However, as outreaching international aspects, Backbone Mittelstand Enterprises seek for assistance from domestic consulting companies. In customer service, both of them provide high-tech and high-quality products along with service in all domains and total solutions. Interestingly, Backbone Mittelstand Enterprises tend to create social relationships with customers or supply chains and they are always passionate and optimistic, which are the key successful factors of obtaining more customers.
