As people grew older, deterioration in mobility caused by age would make it difficult to get up from bed. Falling happens on changing body center because of lose balance and low blood pressure. Therefore, elderly can use bed rails to decrease falling risks and provide support when elderly have difficulty getting into and out of bed. Although various types may be used depend on elderly needs, bed rails may lead to accidents because wrong methods and improper installation. The main purpose of this study focuses on bed mobility for elderly and the location of bed-rails. First, the difference between healthy young adults and older adults in movement and point of application for getting up from bed was observed. Second, subjective ratings were applied to determine how to use bed rails to get up from bed easier for elderly.Third, the impact of age and body dimension for elderly on the location of bed-rails was assessed. The result shows that older adults using upper limbs and strength of lower extremities more frequently than healthy young adults to demonstrate the movement can make older adults get up from bed using bed rails easier. It was observed that age significantly influence the angle and distance of bed-rails. Similarly, the body dimension for elderly caused significantly difference on the angle of bed-rails. Finally, this study suggested the used of bed with bed-rails and the suitable location of bed-rails for better posture and to minimize risk of falling when getting up from bed. The finding can be used as a principle for the design of bed-rails and to decrease falling risks when getting into and out of bed for elderly. Bernard C Jiang 江行全 2016 學位論文 ; thesis 142 zh-TW |
